LomoWall

A bit too much dependence on technology and technique and a bit less spontaneity and joy were starting to make themselves felt in my photography. There was no doubt about it, I was in a rut (and completely without the services of Confuse-A-Cat Ltd.).

Enter the Lomo, a sturdy little Soviet film camera completely sans bells or whistles. Hand crank the film, manual focus with four settings. A satisfying little click-clack as the shutter releases. Super saturated images with telltale vignetting. Freedom from rules, from stagnation, from anything but the sheer joy of taking pictures. No longer trying to conform to any kind of photographic standards, I was now a lomographer. Very cool.

Of course, I’ve not planning to put my digital into mothballs or anything, but these two cameras – the high-tech and the low-tech make an interesting and intriguing combination. Here’s a few fun little shots I’ve taken from as near as the corner drug store and as far as 37000 feet above sea level.
