Si, Se Puede
Bocoy Rum Factory
Havana, Cuba
December 7, 2003
No tourist trip to Cuba can be complete til you have toured at least one rum factory. We, in fact, managed two during our two week stay. A brief introduction to the process of rum manufacture, a quick walk through the factory floor, then free samples and plenty of opportunity to buy cheap bottles of excellent rum.
A U.S. citizen traveling legally to Cuba is allowed to bring back up to $100 worth of merchandise for personal use only. Art work, CDs and other informational materials are exempted from this limitation. A good bottle of rum cost me $5.60, the reserve stuff was more like $11. Cigars ran the gamut from cheap rip-offs you could buy in the street (usually made with banana leaves) to boxes which would cost $200-$300.
Needless to say, $100 doesnt go too far.
